Yesterday, the MI Supreme Court ruled that LGBTQ+ Michiganders are protected under the state's Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act. I'm glad to celebrate this win for diversity, equality, & liberty with the 500K MI residents in our community & all our allies across the state.

Yesterday I gave the keynote speech on behalf of my department's Hate Crimes & Domestic Terrorism Unit for the MCDR Hate Crimes Conference. To show the dangerous vitriol being spurred by hateful rhetoric, I played one of the many threatening calls I receive on a regular basis:

But I'm not asking for your sympathy. Hate crimes aren't about targeting individuals. They're about demeaning entire groups of already-marginalized people, including many of the children in our state. When we allow this rhetoric to go unchecked, that hatred turns to violence.

Tonight we celebrated the well-earned retirement of Lt. Robert Lalone. I had the privilege of working with him , first as a new prosecutor handling violent crimes in the NE District, and then in the Homicide Unit. Congratulations Bob!

Detroit just hosted the largest NFL Draft in history, the Tigers are back in the playoffs, the Lions are headed to the Super Bowl, crime is down and our population is growing. Lots of cities should be like Detroit. And we did it all without Trump’s help.
