WE WON! This week, over 2000 Penn grad workers cast ballots. After eligible votes were tallied, the final count was 1807 to 97. It's official. The majority of eligible voters turned out to the polls. Penn graduate workers have resoundingly declared: WE WANT A UNION AT PENN!

Wow, I am pleasantly surprised and very excited to hear this news! 🥳🎉 Big thank you to the ASA Altruism Morality & Social Solidarity Section for engaging with my work and presenting me with this award. It is a bright spot amidst all that has been going on.

For my dissertation, I am still looking to interview a few more East Asian men with South Asian or Black female partners. If you know someone who fits these criteria, I’d be very grateful if you could share the attached flyer + screening survey link tinyurl.com/upenn-study

Interesting paper on the mental health of people doing qualitative research: Historically, those doing qualitative work—either by itself or in mixed method research—have not necessarily felt readily understood or as respected by funders, mainstream journals, or even colleagues.

I still go to readings, conferences and panels where no one dares to speak against the evil that is happening in Gaza and Lebanon. Children are being shot in the head yet we talk about nothing. How have artists, journalists, and writers become such cowards? Who are we?

New on the blog! Joyce Kim (Sociology at Penn Penn GSE) hands out fun-sized sociology in "Career Choices at a Crossroads" (see her king-sized Social Problems paper), in which low-income, first-gen students weigh post-grad salary vs. fulfilling purpose. 🍭contexts.org/blog/career-ch…
