Great news for housing production in California! These are the kind of bold reforms we need to lower the cost of #housing here in Mass & across the country! nytimes.com/2025/06/30/us/…

I just enacted the most game-changing housing reforms in recent California history. We're urgently embracing an abundance agenda by tearing down the barriers that have delayed new affordable housing and infrastructure for decades. Let’s get building, California.

Governor Newsom is right. Supply and demand isn't a capitalist theory. It's a real thing. Kudos for passing bills to end the weaponization of environmental laws to block new housing.

NIMBYs routinely used California Environmental Quality Act lawsuits to block homeless shelters, transitional housing, and supportive housing projects.

The next time someone says: "We don't need more LUXURY housing, we only need more AFFORDABLE housing" ... show them the facts. Pew study: When you build a lot of "luxury" apartments (which are rarely luxurious btw), rent growth SLOWS MOST in older, more affordable units.

One year ago today, I signed the Affordable Homes Act — the largest investment in housing in Massachusetts history. More than 90,000 new homes are already in the pipeline, meaning lower prices for seniors, workers, families, and more. And we’re just getting started.

This, right here, one of the unspoken, but potentially catastrophic results of a broken housing market. The only solution is to build more housing of all types to lower costs, allow more economic mobility and unlock our potential. #Housing #ZoningReform wsj.com/economy/americ…

In San Francisco, we are getting rid of the nonsense and focusing on common sense. The first Executive Directive I signed as mayor created the PermitSF initiative, to make permitting fast, predictable, and transparent. In our first 100 days, we focused on making life easier for

The NIMBY nuclear option is on the table for voters in Massachusetts: Rent control capping rents at inflation or 5%, whichever is lower. Developers tend to like the Boston MSA, but will obviously have a lot of trouble raising capital for deals there if this passes.

Inclusionary zoning is a tax on new housing that worsens the affordability problem it’s supposed to solve; and negotiating it on a case by case basis just makes it worse.

Consider how carefully the The New York Times reporter and editor had to write this article in order to mislead the readership about the nature of this incident.

I think well-intentioned housing advocates underestimate the frictional costs of compliance burdens like vacancy reporting to a city database intended to appease conspiracy theorists / vacancy truthers. Developers don't just eat those compliance costs when planning new project.

Tonight, Culver City unanimously passed Single Stair reform, becoming the first city in California to legalize it by ordinance. They join Santa Monica, which approved Single Stair two weeks ago as an Alternative Method.
