Today, we see all national sign languages of the European Union recognised, but have a significant way yet to go to ensure that deaf signers have equity of participation and outcome in their lives. But symbolism matters too- and this is, I think, a very significant symbol.

Symbolic action is part of practical change, great to see. Milan conference of deaf educators voted to ban use of sign languages, today there is so far still to go for deaf and hard of hearing children’s education rights and opportunities, celebrating progress is always good.

Phew, home again, exhausting travel (40 hours all up). Poznan is a splendid city & the conference v enlightening. I learned so much, thanks #ICL2024, excellent Q&A and many follow ups. Once I feel normal I’ll reply to all messages (quite pleased w my opening slide here).
