So.... this isn't official, but, we're going to have $7,000 of new TFSA contribution room in 2024. This is based on y/y CPI figures ending Sept 2023... and it's basically a guarantee, unless something VERY unexpected happens to bring year over year CPI number WAY down by the end

Money doesn’t mean a thing without your health. Great you’re a millionaire, but who cares if your body limits you from things like travel, playing with your grandchildren, etc. Exercise everyday with the sole purpose of maintaining the quality of your life 20+ years from now.

Remember: If you take losses in your TFSA, you've lost that room permanently. People love the upside tax savings, and forget that they can lose their TFSA room by making risky bets.

Ethics in finance isn't just about following the law. It's about doing the right thing for the client, even when no specific rule tells you what to do

Your long term goals and your daily actions need to match. If your goal is to build trust, but your daily actions are purely self-serving, you are setting yourself up for failure

Not sure if a business decision is right or wrong? Test it by asking if you would want your mom to find out. If the answer is no, it is likely the wrong choice

The hardest business choices are right vs right ethical dilemmas. For example if your company pushes an average in-house product, do you stay loyal to your employer, or do you tell your client the absolute truth that a better option exists elsewhere

A company's code of ethics is useless if the bosses don't follow it. Leadership has to actually "walk the talk" for the rules to mean anything to the rest of the staff and lead by example

Fiduciary duty means an advisor must put your best interests ahead of their own profit. It is the absolute highest standard of care and trust not just in the financial world, but in many other industries where complete trust is being placed from one to another

If a financial advisor breaks the rules, regulators can hit them with fines of up to $5M, or 3x the illegal profit they made. They can face a temporary suspension or be permanently banned from the industry altogether
