🚨The Home Sec has refused to say how many UK civil servants will be sent to work in Rwanda.

It comes after we revealed that Home Office staff have been asked to apply for jobs in Kigali to help process the asylum claims of people sent there from the UK.

Since parliament passed the Rwanda legislation, more than 2,000 people have now crossed the channel. People are putting, and will continue to put, their lives at risk. Shutting down the asylum system and locking up those seeking asylum is not the answer.

Whichever party forms the next Government will have to confront this problem

Shutting people out of the asylum system & leaving them in limbo is plain terrible - bad for people, bad for trust in the asylum system, just bad

Best solution? Process asylum claims fairly & promptly.

1. Good, right thing to do
2. Actually lots of claims will be refused
3. The current govt would have to do the same anyway because
4. No one can remove tens of thousands to Rwanda
5. And therefore not processing them would cost £billions for ever and ever.

What the Home Office source fails to provide any information on is what exactly the current plans are for the tens of thousands of people already being shut out of the asylum system as a result of the Illegal Migration Act.

Next Thursday, Michael German has secured a debate in House of Lords on the groups impacted by the shutting down of the asylum system as a result of the Illegal Migration Act. Refugee Council 🧡 analysis showed that over 100k people could be shut out of the system by the end of 2024.

Thank you to Deidre Brock MP for raising the Refugee Council 🧡's report on how the Illegal Migration Act will cause a meltdown of the asylum system and leave over 100,000 people in limbo during the migration statement in the Commons. Pity the Minister didn't answer the question.

The people the UK is planning to deport to Rwanda are NOT 'unsuccessful asylum seekers' or 'illegal immigrants.'
They come from countries like Afghanistan, Eritrea & Syria, & if they were allowed to claim asylum, would in most cases be granted it.
