Another day, another post like this. There are literally hundreds of thousands of credible, peer-reviewed studies explaining what’s going on. 2019 was the last normal year because it was the last time people weren’t getting repeatedly infected with a brain-damaging virus.

There isn't much I like about Americans, but the understated cultural taboo we have around having servants/hired help and being generally polite to waitstaff is a genuine achievement in egalitarianism. Much of the rest of the world are absolute savages in this regard.

A lot of people are under the mistaken impression that progress means advances in tech. Real progress is kids who are literate, free meals for public school students, a culture in which human art & poetry are celebrated. We're regressing rapidly & the only way forward is to read.

“Don’t buy a car, it’s a depreciating asset.” Brother, I myself am a depreciating asset. I won’t be here forever. Not everything has to be optimized for returns, some things are just meant to be enjoyed while we’re here.

Every infected participant in the challenge study (all young and healthy people) still had significant cognitive deficits a year later at the end of the study period, even if the participants themselves couldn’t detect their deficits. Now extrapolate…

I will never understand how so many of y’all were hoodwinked into believing the government should not use the money you pay in taxes to create a social safety net that benefits you, fund public healthcare, lower housing costs, and make daily life more affordable.

It bums me out that we have the resources to fix our society, stop our reliance on fossil fuels, guarantee healthcare, house the homeless, and feed every person in the country, but doing so would be a bad time for like, 8 dudes, so we can’t do it.

Apparently, these 2idioms are incomplete and the full versions are: 1. Curiosity killed that cat, but satisfaction brought it back. 2. Jack of all trades, master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one. I am relieved to know now

One of the more sinister trends of the past 40 years has been a cultural taboo against having any kind of intellectual life. We’re bombarded with relentless propaganda about how knowing things makes you a nerd and loser. Curiosity is empowering, & they don’t want you empowered.
