There aren’t a lot of new franchise movies I get giddily excited about these days but goddammit, can Alien: Romulus just hurry up and be in the cinemas already?

Charles Cyphers has passed away. He was an early and frequent collaborator with me on my early movies. A kind man, he was a friend. I shall miss him.

It’s funny, eXistenZ is far from my favourite Cronenberg (although I do have a massive soft spot for it), but random moments and lines from it pop into my head so often. Definitely due a rewatch.

Saw Jane Schoenbrun’s I Saw The TV Glow last night. Ooof my heart. Beautiful, shattering, eerie, brought tears to my eyes. Loved it, it’s definitely going to stick with me.

I thought Alien: Romulus was really great for about 45 minutes (with one big spoilery thing I hated) before going off the rails at quite a delirious but steady clip, but hey, it’s gooey and jump scarey and I mostly had fun (mostly) and David Jonsson is absolutely wonderful.
