So happy to celebrate the life of our friend Scott Tucker tonight. We played some of his favourite tunes, including this classic Four on Six.

Here’s a preview clip from an album I’m working on for Arnie Eigenfeldt and SFU. The project is called ‘A Walk to Meryton’ which mixes improvising jazz musicians and AI. I created the video in this clip using the soprano saxophone solo audio file playback and some visual effects.

Awesome to return to Capilano University today with Sharon Minemoto Quartet to play for the jazz studies students. The first photo is Sharon and I on the day of her graduation recital 25 years ago. The great teachers we studied with inspired us to become full time pro musicians ever since

Happy to be a part of this project nominated for a Juno. Even happier for John Korsrud and Hard Rubber Orchestra who create so many musical opportunities for Vancouver musicians over so many years.

Practice Notebooks of Michael Brecker. I randomly picked this cool module to try first: Major 7th intervals in minor 3rds. In the book, Brecker cites hearing Mike Stern using this sound. Works great on Dom13 b9 chords (from the b9 etc) / diminished. Thanks for the inspiration MB!

“Movin’ Further Wes” is the second single off my new album “Go Ahead!” Inspired by the incredible music of Wes Montgomery, I wrote this melody over the snaky bassline from his song “Movin’ Wes”. Here’s a 60 second clip of the melody and improvised solo. youtube.com/shorts/HgUjrS9…
