The café was dim and darling. I looked like I’d just wandered out of a summer ache, sun still warm on my collarbones. Ordered an iced coffee with too much milk, sat in the corner, and let the chill climb my wrist. I drank it like it’d keep me soft in a hardening world—and it did.
