As parents, we talk about “firsts” - and, to a lesser extent - “lasts” - mostly because we don’t recognize lasts as discrete events; we evolve to lasts. Not today. My daughter went through her clothes for things to purge. Everything with a unicorn was to be donated.

I’m tired of the narrative that former President Trump was somehow a heroic fighter in the seconds after the attempt on his life. I’ve tried putting myself in his position. What would be going through my head? How would I respond? Fair enough, I’ve had longer to think about it.

Still, I don’t think my focus would have been on my own appearance. A heroic response would have been 1) Let's get out of here so we don’t get anyone from the Service killed. 2) Were any of the folks in the crowd hurt. Trump’s response was narcissistic, not heroic.
