June 10-13, we're partnering w/Carnegie Science to stream LIGO, the thrilling inside story of the discovery of gravitational waves from deep space. Also inc. in this FREE program: a convo w/filmmaker Les Guthman 🇺🇦 & experts. RSVP here (views limited): bit.ly/LIGO-DCEFF

Calling all astronomy fans! Through Sunday you can watch LIGO_TheDocumentary for FREE through DC Environmental Film Festival. Stay tuned after the movie for a panel discussion featuring director Les Guthman 🇺🇦 and Carnegie astronomers John Mulchaey, Maria R. Drout & Anthony Piro. bit.ly/LIGO-DCEFF

#JWST is incredible (just ask the seven Carnegie-affiliated scientists leading first-round projects on it). But how to ground-based telescopes like Giant Magellan Telescope fit into the picture? Carnegie Astronomy Director John Mulchaey explains how #JWST and #GMT will complement each other.

Carnegie-led effort secured $205 million toward the completion of the next-generation Giant Magellan Telescope, currently being built at Carnegie Las Campanas Observatory. It will help reveal fundamental physics underpinning the cosmos, advance the search for life on distant worlds & more. carnegiescience.edu/news/carnegie-…

Excited to announce this transformational gift in support of Carnegie Astronomy

“Current and future Carnegie Astronomy astronomers will benefit from this anonymous donor’s generosity, which will push our work to the cutting edge, allowing us to reveal the universe in never-before-seen detail,” said Carnegie Astronomy Director & Carnegie Science Deputy John Mulchaey.

This is Carnegie astronomer Edwin Hubble's famous VAR! plate. #OTD 100 years ago, he made the observations that enabled him to prove the universe exists beyond our own Milky Way galaxy. This breakthrough was made possible by the 100-inch telescope at Mount Wilson Observatory.

.Carnegie Astronomy Director John Mulchaey: The most important telescope of the 20th century is the 100-inch at Mount Wilson Observatory Edwin Hubble used to discover the universe. The second-most-important is the one that was named after him and carried his legacy forward for new generations.

Thrilled to have our Carnegie Astronomy Director John Mulchaey with Perot Museum CEO Dr. Linda Silver on WFAA this morning talking about the incredible celestial event that will be happening next Monday. #GreatNorthAmericanEclipse

Astrophysicist John Mulchaey from Carnegie Astronomy joins Al Roker in Dallas to talk all about the total solar eclipse today! 🌚➡️🌞

Congratulations to Carnegie Astronomy alumna Jane Rigby on this incredible achievement! We are proud to be part of her story.

🚀 "The @GiantMagellan will impact almost all areas of #astronomy and #astrophysics. It's a powerful instrument that a significant fraction of the country's astronomers will be using.” - John Mulchaey, Observatories Director Carnegie Astronomy bit.ly/inside-gmt
