I was recently reminded that the buyout of the 4,500 acre Borve & Annishader estate took place 30 years ago, in 1993. A quietly successful community land buyout. Membership open to all residents, not just crofters. My 1st involvement in community ownership when working with HIE.

Impressive community led developments in Rousay

Community owned land, turbine and electric car and that’s not all in Rousay.

Machrihanish Airbase Community Co. is an excellent example of community land ownership driving economic growth & business start up. Amazing list of businesses that are now in this former airbase bought by the community in 2012. 1,000 acres of opportunity. machrihanish.org

This is seriously disappointing. We know these are tough times financially, but this is not a good sign for land reform in Scotland.
