The northern lights and a meteor in one shot! Kielder Observatory Last night we got a brief glimpse of the aurora when a very obvious spike appeared to grow from the horizon. I set my camera up ASAP and was incredibly lucky to catch a green perseid meteor at the same time! 😍🤯

Me and the Milky Way core - taken the other night from my local 'dark sky' spot. My first time properly photographing it :) It's great to finally be getting out of summer and back into the darker nights again! 8 x 30s, ISO 1600, 24mm @ f/2.8 #Astrophotography

A staple of the Peak District National Park, the millstones now rest unused, under the clear night sky. Approx 2.5h exposure, taken last night. Canon 6Da, 24mm f/2.8 120s ISO800 #peakdistrict #astrophotography #ThePhotoHour Peak District National Park

Clouds of Andromeda The beautiful Andromeda Galaxy is a large spiral galaxy with dark dust lanes, bright yellowish core, and spiral arms traced by blue starlight. Faint reddish clouds of glowing ionized hydrogen gas lie in our own Milky way. Exposure: 64 hours

I was pretty happy with my photos this night but when the Moon rose I couldn't believe my eyes. The landscape became so much more three dimensional and those shadows were 😍. You can watch this adventure in my latest Astro Vlog on YouTube - youtu.be/BHSo7urctN4

Had a great time last night visiting Nottingham Trent University, for a talk on the heritage of astronomy. Ended with a viewing session in their own campus observatory!

So here it is all assembled - my La Palma travel setup! This is about as light as I can possibly make it while still using my mono camera. What could possibly go wrong on the first night? Hopefully I can get it all running before I go in January... #Astrophotography

La Palma - every astronomers paradise, and my playground for the next week! I had a good look around all the telescopes last night and got a few photos. They shut the road at night, so it's a good walk with 20kg worth of kit! #astrophotography #astronomy

Finally! The #Uranus System on Jan 16th/17th imaged from home. Note the appearance of the Epsilon Ring, the brightest member of its kind. After working with the very best data captured over the last two nights, I'm pretty convinced this is a valid detection! #astrophotography
