So Dyson Ask Dyson how is it that the battery on a lightly used V6 vacuum die and die completely, and then there be none available as a replacement? I understand the supply chain issues but perhaps this reminds us that planned obsolescence is not the best strategy these days!

It's been a while. Quite a while. But I have tossed out a short, and inflammatory, blog post advocating for a neologism - FAAAY - as word of the year / decade... gollner.ca/2021/12/feelin…

I feel compelled to follow-up on my grumbling about my #Dyson vacuum. After some back & forth Dyson took action on the unavailability of my part and just sent me one. Gratis. They found that something was amiss, owned it, and took action. A dangerously positive trend.

I have been revamping my blog (now running along for 15 years although a little more quietly in recent years). I also christened the responsive look & feel with a post about the SALSA framework (a way to looking at things and then changing them) gollner.ca/2022/11/the-sa…

So Purolator 🇨🇦 do you actually deliver packages? You have clearly bungled my XMAS delivery and your customer support is pathologically virtual - by which I mean useless. It is intentionally so, I imagine. If you have lost or destroyed something, you could at least let me know.

I understand the pressures of business & of trying to keep support & maintenance costs down. I really do. But Facebook does this really need to translate into absolutely no support? Is there a way to raise an issue at all & especially one with some nuance (aka w/ human support)?

I have been a fitbit user from the beginning and the Sense 2 was my third #Fitbit wearable. But it was so bad, and so difficult to reconfigure, that I broke it. Actually broke it. It's dead Jim. The UX seemed to be working hard at "engagement" but became "exasperating" instead.

I think that there is a deeper lesson here. Each generation of #Fitbit I have owned got worse. How is it that with more design work & more innovation things get worse? It's actually not surprising. It is the norm. Barnaclization @ work. True everywhere but doubly true for design.

My first true #Canadiano in some time! A Canadiano is: start with a strong Americano, finish to taste (eg cream) then add a "snow drift" of milk foam (great white north). They cheerfully made me a beautiful one today at the Grindstone Cafe in #VictoriaBC (instagram.com/grindstonecafe…)

A short post touching on the varied uses that we have made of the moniker - Web 3.0. Of course, I had to offer an alternative. I couldn't help myself. See: gollner.ca/2023/09/web-3.…

Building a sense of excitement, or is it foreboding, around things to discuss at the upcoming #LavaCon #ContentStrategy conference (lavacon.org)

So Victoria Police what's up with the streets in Victoria? In one walk, I narrowly avoided being a) hit by a scooter on a sidewalk, b) hit by a bike while on a crosswalk with a walk indicator & c) hit by a car again while in a crosswalk. Luckily I am still nimble. Is this mixed use?

I have been getting back to posting on various topics. It's not that I have been idle. On the contrary. But now have the time & inclination to share results. See my latest on human knowledge in the age of the smart machine gollner.ca/2023/11/human-…

Just as with Gresham's Law, where bad money drives out good, people with an answer will drive out people looking for the answer

Having moved to western Canada, I tried, really tried, to shift my business to a western airline WestJet. Troubles this year & last has shown this to be a mistake. Unreliable is unusable. The loss of choice is not a good thing. #marketfailure #westjet #disappointed

As a minor public service & as a way to vent just a little, I wanted to share how unhappy I am with my latest #Samsung phone (Samsung Mobile). It is flaky beyond words & represents yet another decline from where mobile devices used to be. Bell should not be selling these phones.

Like lots of people, I mostly come to X to vent. There is some merit even in that. Today's outburst is about the City of Victoria and the strange Ipsos survey I participated in yesterday. My post is, accordingly, named #VictoriaAnalytica #misinformation gollner.ca/2025/08/victor…
