Awful reports that at least six children are among those who have drowned in the Channel. This is another heartbreaking reminder that there need to be safe, legal and accessible pathways for children to seek protection and reunite with family members.

12 people have died in the Channel; 6 were children. As we mourn them, we hope that yet another tragedy, in addition to anti-trafficking measures, accelerates long term responses: safe pathways, cooperation among states, more aid upstream to stabilize flows, conflict resolution.

Buthaina and her six children fled el-Fasher, a besieged city in the Darfur region of #Sudan, when food and drink ran out.  “We left with nothing, we just ran for our lives. We didn’t want to leave - my children were top of their class at school and we had a good life at home.”
