It's a subtle point -- one that requires a caveat: every story is a representation, with a form, which means any story is always already aestheticized (through selection, omission, arrangement, embellishments, etc.), rendering the line between fact & fiction a very fine one.

What are the institutional and disciplinary histories of intra-African travel for higher education? What "schools" have shaped the disciplines across borders? For example Kenyan literary scholars who trained in Stellenbosch, radical Ethiopian historians who sutudy at MISR....

Does anyone still remember the military outfit that perpetrated violent acts in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s to frame Amin's SRB, Obote's UNLA and Kony' LRA, respectively, if the testimonies of its own architects are anything to go by?

A culture of excellence or mediocrity perhaps. Sticking with the latter, when mediocrity becomes a culture, it captures institutions, structures, systems & the general psyche, enlisting its own footsoldiers & even "intellectuals", at which point it must be actively resisted.

This recent ruling marks an important step towards holding Prof. Mamdani Mahmood Mamdani accountable. In 2010, he set shop Makerere University with generous donor funds to train researchers cheaply in an African institution. He ended up destroying more than he groomed. 1/ ulii.org/akn/ug/judgmen…
