Finally finished Detectorists. I’ve enjoyed lots of comedy series over the years but none have made my heart quite so full as this. Every second of it has been a huge, warm hug. This scene with Terry and Shiela absolutely killed me. A moment of simple joy and contentment. 😭

Can anyone explain why, in the Wye Salmon Action Plan, only 1/8 of the identified obstructions to salmon migration were considered for removal (given fish passes are second-rate solutions)? Nor do documents e.g. at Osbaston suggest it was ever assessed.

We found 10 lapwing nests in the end and worked with the farmer to protect them.
It took him 2hrs longer to plough the field but he said it was worth the extra effort.
4 nests have hatched so far, the rest shouldn't be much longer.

1887: 2,500 people take part in a mass trespass on Latrigg, Lake District

1896: 10,000-strong trespass on Winter Hill, Lancashire

1926 - 1939: annual protests in Winnat's Pass calling for an Access to Mountains bill, numbering thousands

But as Jon says, it goes further back...

Another example of commemoration as obfuscation: it did not mark the beginning of the right to roam movement. In fact it was pretty late. You'll find reference to the right to roam back to the 18th century, when arguably more significant battles took place over enclosure.

A good point, and well put. I made a similar argument at a Kinder anniversary in 2016 (not sure what was happening with my hair though, think I was trying to let it rewild) grough.co.uk/magazine/2016/…
