Many people think solar and wind won't be able to keep the grid stable because they lack "inertia". I think solar, wind and batteries will do a BETTER job and I think you can explain it thus: - the old grid is a record player - the new grid a digital player 🧵

China is on track to become the world’s first major “electrostate,” with its electrification rate reaching 30%. This puts China ahead of both the EU and the US, where the proportion of electricity in total energy use has remained steady at about 22% in recent years.

This is one of the the largest heat pumps in the world (60MW). It is located in Esbjerg, DK and provides heating for 100,000 people. The heat pump replaced coal-fired thermal generation using Denmark's electricity which is 2/3 from wind and solar.

5/ Something else worth noting: the collapse in British Nobel Prize awards after 1979. That's no coincidence, as the government of Margaret Thatcher slashed funding for basic research because it was not considered to be of value to industry. Many British scientists fled abroad.

You could watch the news 24/7 & not know that: Our planet’s at its hottest in 120,000 years. Methane levels are their highest in MILLIONS of years. CO2 levels their highest in 3 MILLION years. We're in a climate crisis. Denying it won't solve the problem. #ActOnClimate

Greece, Spain are promising locations to let Europes energy-intensive industries migrate. Abundant energy, lower labour costs. Their regions are already showing strong growth in intra-EU goods exports. Germany should let some of its steel and chemical industry go there. 1/

Part of me has been feeling the time is approaching for a reckoning with the implicit solarmaxxing of both much of the Abundance movement *and* its critics. The next 10 yrs is when these political groups must grapple deeply with the grid and power markets. 🧵

So, the notion that Europe can laissez-faire its way out of this challenge — that industrial policy is unnecessary, comparative advantages will simply reassert themselves — is dangerously complacent. A “do nothing” strategy carries serious risks of its own. 9/9

So let me get this straight: the first person to announce Putin’s “decisive response” to Ukraine’s operation wasn’t Putin himself — it was Donald Trump. And not just announce it, but present it as part of a “good conversation.” No condemnation. No call for restraint. No
