This is EXTREMELY high priority - with the city’s repeated attempts to undermine and disband the camp, we need ALL HANDS ON DECK from the community to continue supporting the folks at the camp!

In nearby Kansas City, homelessness is now criminalized. This is what the loud anti-homeless elements in Lawrence are also calling for. As KC and Lawrence crack down on homeless people, we must be extra prepared to strongly advocate for our unhoused community members.

THREAD: We are raising $1600 to prevent a community member from being evicted. But this isn’t just about them. Thousands of people in our town are suffering under rent debt. Pandemic assistance has ended, KERA has ghosted so many people and now tons of evictions are looming.

The city has no more space in any of their houseless shelters so where will thousands of newly evicted people go? The census-based estimate says theres at least 1900 children being affected by this in our county too. Where will they go?

We want to talk to as many people as we can going through similar situations. We can’t promise to raise money for everyone, but we can come together and demand action. We NEED to come together. If you or anyone you know is going through this please reach out to us!

We are not close to meeting this goal yet. The city City of Lawrence KS has the funds and resource capability to eliminate all of Douglas County’s rent debt, but they won’t. Last call for funds! We are at $755 right now. Can you help us make it to $800 so we can at least help with half of their request? Times are tough right now, and we only have each other. Every $5 donation counts—every bit adds up.

With deadly heat indices near 120 degrees, we urge you to please drop off water bottles for our unhoused community! We will freeze these bottles to ensure folks have access to cold water in this heat. You can either drop off outside the ECM or DM us and we can pick up from you.

So far we have been handing out three 24-packs a day as that is all the freezer space we have, but we are running out of funds. $4 per pack, 3 packs per day for 8 more days of extreme heat, totals out to ~$100 needed for this. Please send funds to @LFKEATS to help meet this need!
