Planted corn this week. Was pleased to have adequate moisture to plant into despite only receiving around 2” of total precipitation since Nov 1. The soil cover/armor is doing its job. Going to be a tough go for this corn crop though without a change in this dry weather pattern.

I’m going to miss Eric’s voice coming through the radio in my tractor. He has kept me and so many farmers up to date on relevant information and happenings from @KStateRE and #agriculture each day for 39 years. “Our time’s away once more.” Well done Eric and thank you.

Andrew had a blast doing this Crop Skills Challenge Husker Harvest Days and was so excited to win. It included weed and insect ID, grain marketing, and siphon tube setting. Thank you UNL-TAPS! Never to early to start recruiting K-State Agronomy Crops Team. I’ll put in a good word for you.

Appreciating a nice end to today before the wind tomorrow. On the downhill side of a very dry wheat seeding season. Like most all #wheat farmers, hoping for rain very soon. For now, back to seeding and listening to K-State football in the tractor.

Mark your calendars. This will be a great seminar for anyone interested in US and KS #wheat. Open to the public. Justin Gilpin of KansasWheat has a uniquely broad and insightful perspective and understanding of the wheat industry. Any chance there can be a webinar link KSU Grain Science?

“He joined his band and started dating his wife in the exact same week. For a teenager who seemed to be drowning, he did a fantastic job of finding companions for life. Who manages to do all that by age 18?” theatlantic.com/magazine/archi…

Voting in Chicago on Election Day is a much different experience than in Gypsum where we walk right in, pausing only to visit with our neighbors who are working the polling location or there to vote.

Appreciating a sunny afternoon in February and some time to observe what’s happening in a few fields... and seeing life.

A welcomed rain this morning so I was able to attend the goundbreaking ceremony for the new K-State Agronomy Research and Innovation Center. Several things things I love - K-State Agronomy, K-State College of Agriculture, The Pride of Wildcat Land, and Willie - all there to celebrate this great investment for Kansas.
