This needs to be spoken about- Sadly we lost the lovely Michael Byrne to suicide last week,we lost Liam Treadwell & James Banks in 2020 also to suicide. This picture taken from James Facebook shows 4 of them together, only one survives. It’s chilling. All retired jockeys.

Cont. when they hit rock bottom, or when their mother calls up asking for help. Jockeys need to be prepared during their careers for what is next after they retire.Have a plan A & B. A plan for when they retire by choice or if they have to retire early from a career ending injury

I want to help,I want to make positive impact for change,at least for the sake of these 3 boys,one of which was one of my best pals.I’m happy to put my head above the parapet here. There are a lot of vulnerable jockeys/ex jockeys who have just lost THREE friends.

It’s simply UNFATHOMABLE. Three to suicide. All friends. I hope the industry is supporting these individuals & making calls, visiting them, because they are now extremely vulnerable. Please everyone in this industry think about what we can all do to make better change to support

Jockeys & stable staff,male & female. What infrastructures can we put in the racing yards, at the physio facilities, at the race courses, at home for them. Perhaps some support groups in Lambourn, Newmarket areas also, a space where lads can speak together about their struggles

I could write a book on this,& about my experiences. Psychology is my professional career, I was born & breed to be amongst the racing world. I want to make positive impact / change where I can.This problem just needs to be highlighted first. So here we are: LETS TALK ABOUT IT
