Hi all! Increasingly in my institution. All courses hae to have an online component and moving to a taught online component #auselt

We use Moodle. It is useful but I don't think the interactive functions ( forums ) are very engaging #auselt

Agree with pedagogy before technology! I would say that the problem with Moodle forums is that although studenst can post their own comments relatively easity, they can't see or comment on peers. It involves clunky system of clicking on each post individually. #auselt

Research shows that student drop out of online courses is related to lack of interaction #auselt

I think engagement relates to both student interaction and teacher presence. #auselt

And also of course to an engaging activity.. So 1. teacher presence 2, student interaction 3 engaging activity - same as in the classroom really ! But maybe online courses tend to forget thsi? #auselt

I suppose nature of the interaction will be dictated by the course - eg practising the present perfect, conducting an academic seminar discussion etc ( unless you have complete freedom or interaction is an 'extra' to the course. How to engage within set constraints? #auselt
