States have lots of leeway to implement even stricter Medicaid work requirements than Republicans have proposed. Work would have to be verified at application and every 6 months, but states could do it more often. One month of work is required, but states could require more.

It's interesting that the Secretary of HHS is not one of the Cabinet secretaries being sent out to sell President Trump's tax and spending bill. Presumably the Medicaid and ACA cuts are not seen as a big selling point.
