The Ministry of Justice have announced the long-awaited increased fixed net sum/"statutory legacy" of £270,000 (up from £250,000, a rounding of the 8.1% CPI increase since 2014). A surviving spouse/CP receives it + 1/2 the balance & personal chattels on #intestacy: gov.uk/government/pub….

UK’s new statutory instrument increases the net sum a surviving spouse/civil partner can receive if a person dies intestate leaving issue; it comes into force on 6 Feb GOV.UK bit.ly/3alHNWS

The House of Lords is considering a change to the #law which would exempt siblings who live together from paying #inheritancetax on property left to each other. Currently, just those who are married or registered civil partners do not have to pay any #IHT bit.ly/36lUGNB

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Inheritance Tax and Intergenerational Fairness is calling for #inheritancetax to be cut from 40% to 10% in a radical overhaul. The group was set up a year ago to lobby for change #IHT bit.ly/2vxIFYP
