The day I broke out of the mindset that this is not a calling but a job I do in exchange for money & benefits was one of the most freeing days of my adult life. It doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the thing you do in exchange for money & benefits. I do. But it doesn’t run my life.

One consequence of this strategy (deliberate or not) is it distracts from all other issues. Every day the news media devote to immigration (even if to debunk absurd and racist claims) helps reinforce in voters minds that the election is about this—not health care, etc.

The irony of the US government arguing in favor of a TikTok ban because they say algorithm-driven propaganda is not protected speech when the entire field of mass communication in the US was founded on the behavioral effects of propaganda is quite something.

I just want us to note that the term "hallucination-free" is now being used as a marketing claim for AI companies *in* their mass media advertising. What a funny world we live in.
