I've lost the ability to fall asleep. I'll just lay there, for hours, my body absolutely having none of it. There's few things as destructive for me as my sleep getting messed up. Here's to another braindead tomorrow.

"In the future, we won't need programmers, just people who can describe to a computer precisely what they want it to do without being ambiguous, foreseeing possible blind spots, and covering all possible edge cases." Wait a minute... 🤔

This week's theme has been "Feature, then refactor." Ship messy code with the new thing technically working. Then open a new PR to refactor the mess. PRs are smaller, refactor is easier to verify, your feature gets out faster.

The joy you feel when things are *technically* working. It doesn't sound at all like its supposed to, but the fact it's getting a DUN DUN DUN at all is legit progress.

It's annoying that Unreal USTRUCTs have default initializations. It's easier to build logic around NULL than something existing with default initialization. This is probably a skill issue on my side, but I didn't realize how insidious default data could be.

I suppose the tradeoff is that USTRUCTs are a lot less crash-prone than an unhandled nullptr. Playstation/Xbox certification punishes crashes much more than user bugs, so I guess the ecosystem has pushed Unreal in this direction. Still annoying.

Been sleepwalking the past two months, just managing to keep the bare minimum going. Today I'm going for the local maximum. I don't actually know what that means, but it sounds somewhat clever so I'm going with it. jerkytreats.dev/2025/been-slee…
