This is my new favorite ad. I have no idea who the company is or what they do, but based on my observations a 1000-slide presentation from consultants (or academics for that matter) is not too far of a stretch. Hilarious and scary at the same time. youtu.be/C3L23OnHOP8

I'm very curious to see what impact this will have on production of goods that are imported to the EU; it's an implicit price on carbon. I also can't help but wonder how the GHG accounting will work. Could be a game-changer. wsj.com/articles/europ…

Happy #Festivus! May your holiday be filled with airing of grievances and feats of strength as you celebrate around the Festivus pole. Enjoy the other holidays at this time of year as well.

In my experience, behavior change is more important than technological solutions to address most sustainability challenges. Central Ohio is using behavioral science principles to increase food composting rates. We need more of this. nytimes.com/2023/01/01/hea…

While it is heartening to see companies investing millions of dollars in regenerative ag, there are significant challenges getting farmers to change their practices. Another case of behavior change and finance being critical to enabling mitigation. wsj.com/articles/agric…

While we're well aware of the impacts of materials and energy used in vehicles, this important study from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) researchers highlights the impacts of computing for autonomous vehicles. This is the iceberg below the surface that we need to monitor. news.mit.edu/2023/autonomou…

This resonates with me because of what I hear from students: they want to work for companies that are doing work that matters. Companies should be prepared to compete for top talent by demonstrating positive impact and commitment to climate goals. nytimes.com/2023/01/30/tec…

The MCSC’s 2022 symposium showcased the benefits of academia-industry collaboration over #climate and #sustainability topics. An emergent theme was that the best way for various sectors to reach sustainability goals is to work together: impactclimate.mit.edu/2023/02/06/mcs…

We recently hosted a study group at the MIT Climate & Sustainability Consortium (MCSC) on Voluntary Carbon Markets with an expert panel from MIT Sloan School of Management, MIT Urban Planning @mitdusp.bsky.social, and @BBVA. Sydney Sroka, Aneil Tripathy, and I wrote a topic brief highlighting issues discussed by the panel: impactclimate.mit.edu/wp-content/upl…

Electrification of buildings is a priority, but it likely will not be practical in many instances. This solution of capturing CO2 from boilers and then using the CO2 to make concrete blocks is a good one that I hope expands to other areas. nytimes.com/interactive/20…

I'm glad that our president is listening to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) community's desire to take bold action on climate change. Having her support puts more wind in our sails!

This is some innovative work led by Prof. Caitlin Mueller on reusable concrete structural components. It could really change the way we think about circularity in buildings.
