Layoffs suck. Not looking to go on a long rant about it. But just want to thank Jeremy Hogan and Bill Thornbro for everything. Two extremely talented people. Just to illustrate the point, here are just a few of the awesome photos Jeremy took for my stories:

I was laid off this week after 22+ years as a staff photographer at the Herald-Times in Bloomington, Ind. They announced Monday we were sold to GateHouse, and by Wednesday I no longer had a job. I'll be hitting the streets looking for freelance work. I do both video and photos.

Some things I kept in my trunk while working for the local newspaper: combat first aid kit with Quick Clot, bicycle helmet, gas mask and extra NATO filters, plastic spoons, canned food, bottled water, toothbrush and toothpaste, change of clothes. -- I usually worked alone.

Gatehouse purchased my hometown paper in November 2016 and since has chopped the newsroom by two-thirds, cut the sports staff from 4 to 1 and got rid of the Monday paper. Now, they've cut the most decorated writer in the newspaper's history. Just horrible.
