A truly historic day in California: a clean CEQA exemption for environmentally friendly infill housing has just passed the California legislature! No other way to put it: this is the most transformative positive shift in land use policy in this state of the last 50 years!

The most game-changing housing reforms in at least *50 years* of CA history Great day to be a Californian who cares about the environment and housing affordability!

Hell yeah We’ve almost solved housing, now we just need to fully fix zoning, permitting (pre- and post-entitlement), fees, the urban planning profession, federal mortgage standards, Prop 13 and the tax structure More work to be done for sure but a lot to celebrate today!

I never thought I’d hear people complain about “the sound of children playing,” but alas such comments are common in the Bay Area’s absurd permitting process for childcare jeremyl.substack.com/p/how-i-became…

Strong agree. YIMBYism can contain single-issue orgs AND cross-issue orgs The advantage of a distributed movement is that not every org needs to do all of the things. Tons of room for experimentation

Old duplex, dentist’s office, new four plex A much more charming block than the vast majority of single-use single-family neighborhoods I’ve been to!

Two years ago, I moved from a 1970s bottom-floor duplex unit I split with a friend into a 2012 apartment building I pay a bit more but get my own space in a newer building with modern amenities. Bonus, my old duplex later renter for less than I paid for it! Good phenomenon

Lafayette, CA just sent an email to all residents requesting opposition to SB 79, a bill allowing denser homes within a half mile of our BART station. This is official city communications Local control in exclusionary suburbs is working super well!

The California Democratic Party just voted to support our legislation to allow more housing near train & subway stations & rapid bus stops. SB 79 means more housing, stronger transit, less traffic congestion & lower carbon emissions. Thank you Democrats! California Democratic Party
