For most of my time at Kent Law School, Alex Alex T Magaisa 🇿🇼 and I co-taught ConLaw and Financial Regulation. Considering his larger-than-life persona as a public intellectual and a champion for a better Zimbabwe, his modesty was humbling. This one hurts. RIP Alex. You did it right.

We’ve seen the sector a bit nervous about the fact that they now have to entertain certain changes to the legal frameworks that they had not anticipated.

Because as much as they did not like certain aspects of the EU’s regulatory framework, they consider those sunk costs, they had already complied with those regulations, and now once again they have to contemplate costs to new compliance requirements.’

🗣Jeremmy Okonjo, University of Warwick It is important that while of course, we have a lot of proposals coming, we need to ensure we are not having a regulatory bonfire for the sake of it or for political reasons.

But rather reforms that indeed align with the interests of the market that is quite uneasy with the new compliance costs

These questions should be viewed as opportunities to educate these individuals on how a majority of the world population actually view and experience the so-called ‘International’ Law, rather thank ask the TWAIL-ers to change how they explain their experience and thoughts on IL.

“We need to see unemployment rise… we need to see pain in the economy, we need to remind people that they work for the employer, not the other way round…” 🤨 Alot to unpack from this interview, about the laws of the ‘economy’, and for whom it works for.
