There was a shooting a block and a half from my work tonight, right in the middle of dinner service. We are all safe and unharmed, but I’m not gonna lie, I’m absolutely terrified right now.

I had to be the calm and collected person to make sure my guests were safe. One of them gave me a huge hug on the way out and said she was very proud of how brave I was. I didn’t feel very brave when I had to make the phone calls to my family…

I only slept a few hours last night. My brain hasn’t processed anything that happened last night, yet my body sure has opinions.

Normally both of my cats are hiding in a closet on the 4th of July. This year one is screaming at me to make the fireworks stop (Leland) and the other (Stewart) is alternating between hiding in the tub, the sink and in my arms. That cat NEVER wants to be held. Sigh.

So I had to warm up beers for a table tonight. Warm MILLER LITE. 🤮

Just over five months until I’m 40. I should be planning a big party but I just realized that the same two people I see every week will probably be the only ones who would attend. My life turned to shit and all my other friends abandoned me. Fuck my life.

A guy in my flight apparently plays the bagpipes. He has a little electric bagpipe he plugs his headphones into and only he can hear. He has been silently (to everyone but himself) ripping his bagpipe for 5 straight hours. I have no choice but to respect this.

Last week, I tested positive for COVID for the first time ever. Had a mild case, tested negative Monday. Went back to work Tuesday, was sent home for almost fainting last night, tested positive for a fucking rebound case and feel like total trash again today. 😫

I made some homemade soup and I’m pretty sure I’ve waaaaay over salted it. But I can’t truly tell since I don’t have most of my sense of smell and taste. Seems like I’ll probably be throwing out the leftovers. Serves me right for trying to cook from scratch while having COVID 😫

The irony of having a Thanksgiving potluck at a restaurant… My employer isn’t giving us a ceee meal for working the holiday and is expecting us to provide the meal instead…

I made it through thanksgiving and only cried three times. Just one of them was at work! And no, it wasn’t because of a guest. A coworker said something genuinely nice to me and we both ended up crying over it.

The last time I had to work on Thanksgiving, I think I was 21 years old, so that was a fun one. I have to work two of the three holidays so I chose to take New Year’s off. There is no way I’m dealing with the traffic, especially since I always seem to close on Sunday nights.
