Once every few years, the Namibian desert experiences what is known as the Sandhof lily bloom. The lily bulbs sit in the clay beneath the desert floor, waiting patiently for years some centimers of rainfall. x.com/i/status/17664…

I try to hold both history and wilderness in mind, that my poems may approach the true measure of things and stand against the unbalance and ignorance of our times.

I can’t recommend this book highly enough. To say that it will give you things to think about is an understatement. As always, be prepared to explore and think with a great writer.

A narrow focus on individuals who drop litter diverts attention and responsibility from the industries that continue to produce single-use products in vast quantities.—Alastair Humphreys A near-constant dilemma between focusing on the macro or the micro. alastairhumphreys.com/product/local/

Every man has to learn the points of compass again as often as he awakes, whether from sleep or any abstraction. Not till we are lost…do we begin to find ourselves, and realize where we are and the infinite extent of our relations. (Henry David Thoreau)

From the Rome Is Burning Dept: share.newsbreak.com/7spjftaw?s=i16 I’d worry more about a second TFG term than anything going on now. Habitat destruction via chaining will look like child’s play when Secretary Boebert rules at Interior.

Stewardship on the H-T is nothing short of a scam. The “leaders” on this forest take advantage of geography & hierarchy to allow disgraceful management. I’m not quite sure who’s worse in Nevada: FS or BLM. No meaningful advocacy or oversight occurs.

In approaching the land with an attitude of obligation, willing to observe courtesies difficult to articulate—perhaps only a gesture of the hands—one establishes a regard from which dignity can emerge. Barry Lopez

I was 15 when this album came out. I had already been listening to Dylan because of an uncle who corrupted me. I have been wrestling with it, the 4 bootleg versions (I have) and the More Blood set since. A crazy thing to set a kid on that path. Who knows if I am better for it.
