Our patients deserve evidence-based, high-quality care, and the federal health programs can help

You read this right: in Florida you will be charged with felony assault if someone else has an anxiety reaction near you. The law doesn’t require them to prove you did anything to them, just that they didn’t feel good around you. salon.com/2024/04/04/tou…

This new Florida law makes it a crime for an officer to have a panic attack if he thinks there's fentanyl near you. Its threshold is literally that an officer receives medical care for symptoms related panicking about fentanyl; no proof of exposure needed.

Bills under consideration in FL, WV, & TN would make it easier to charge people who use drugs with a fictitious crime...exposing law enforcement officers to fentanyl. Our own Claire Zagorski, MSc, LP explores this development with Ryan Marino, MD in Salon. salon.com/2024/04/04/tou…

There are already people spending time in prison on trumped up charges related to exposing law enforcement to fentanyl. Three states are considering bills that would make it far easier to put people behind bars for this imaginary offense.
