It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. Company doesn’t want to get locked into cloud because cloud is bad, therefore only uses portable undifferentiated infrastructure, thereby realizing high costs and no benefit, and concludes that cloud is an expensive way to rent computers.
If nothing else Mastodon is introducing people into the whole Open Source tradition of trying to be enthusiastic about something really bad that doesn't work at all because you don't want to be rude to the maintainers and the thing you really want to use doesn't work anymore.
Hundreds upon hundreds of Twitter employees have technically resigned but still have access to Twitter’s internal systems, with some speculating it is because the employees tasked with managing that access also resigned.
For those still lost on the steps to move:
1. Create account @ mastodon dot world
2. Put your 🐘 Mastodon URL in 🐦 Twitter bio (while it's still allowed)
3. Sign into 🐦 and 🐘 movetodon.org to find everyone you follow here, over there
Gonna shout this out one more time. If you’re on the fence, this might be the last chance to migrate your follows off here. DMs open if you need help or have questions.
i don't listen to podcasts to learn something beneficial, in fact i am actively against bettering myself. i listen to podcasts to hear two complete freaks who are overfamiliar with each other spout nonsense for 50 minutes, and then, in time, to adopt their speech patterns myself
if nothing else it has been fascinating to watch the guy who thinks he's a genius learn extremely basic facts about the thing he spent $44 billion on in real time
