Now, here is the problem our colleagues in rural areas face: When a doctor accepts posting to a deprived district, they often become the only doctor for an entire community. In some instances we have just one doctor manning these hospitals. The district heavily depends on them.

The result? They can remain general practitioners for 5, 10, even 15 years while colleagues in urban centers progress to become specialists (this has financial perks as well). They are effectively locked out of career advancement because the system refuses to replace them or

And the irony is When we eventually have a shortage of specialists in this country, the same critics will ask "Why aren't our doctors specializing? Why are we exporting our medical talents?" This is the answer. Because we trapped them in districts with no pathway out. So when I

As for other professionals working in rural areas they equally need good conditions too. But do not use the struggles of others to dismiss the legitimate concerns of doctors. The answer is not to pull everyone down to the lowest common denominator.

The answer is to raise the standard for all. We are demanding a system where rural service is a structured, time-bound, and supported experience not a dead end. When doctors can serve, train, specialize, and return to serve more, every Ghanaian benefits. That is not entitlement.
