Today was the day that I met an amazing person, Kathryn Gordon, President of @FlatCanRecycling. Her company recycles hardhats and other items that most companies don’t take. They are in Elburn and I highly encourage you to take your hard hats, safety vests, and styrofoam to her!

These represent the power of volunteers. I’m standing in the same spot @FabyanPreserve, one picture is looking south and is 100% buckthorn, the other is looking north and represents months of hard work. Volunteers rule!!! Never stop giving of your time, it makes a difference.

The NRC held its annual Fox River Cleanup today! Thanks to everyone that came out, it was a great day and we collected a lot of junk. The NRC thanks you as does the Fox River!

Despite the daunting wall of honeysuckle, GHS freshman Griffin B. attacked with impunity and took it down at Fabyan Preserve. We set a goal to reach the oaks behind and he did it. He left the workday a very happy camper…

Our 1st annual Pumpkin Smash is off to a smashing good start! We are at the Geneva Community Gardens so come on out and smash away! And we are collecting aerosol cans, paint, and other items thru Flat Can Recycling, small fees may be applied to certain items.

Last night was a first of a lifetime for me and 15 others, we enjoyed a 1927 Taylor’s Port. Yes, 1927. Tim, far right, had the honor of extracting the nearly 100 year old cork, which he did with perfection. The wine was amazing! Still drinking well with florals and fruit.

Today at our Fabyan workday these three GHS students cut away honeysuckle then got up close and personal with this giant bur oak. Standing under it and looking up, they were in awe of the size and grandeur of this magnificent tree. This is why we do this hard work. Thank you GHS!

We had an impromptu work day today at Fabyan Preserve and burned numerous wood piles. It was a great way to end 2023 and to say goodbye to a whole lotta buckthorn and honeysuckle. Thanks to everyone that came out and Happy New Year to all!

The 5th Battle of the Brush Piles is done and was a huge success! We had over 80 students from Geneva High and Middle schools, Batavia High, Metea, and Wheaton Warrenville South. This year the trophy went to Wheaton Warrenville, they had a great showing and earned the win!

We had our youngest stewards ever at Gunnar Anderson today. They loved it and give me great pride for our future.
