BREAKING: Today likely will go down in history as a major turning point in saving our planet. Dutch court orders Shell to halve emissions; shareholders slam Chevron over Ecuador; Exxon loses two Board seats to climate activists. The fossil fuel era is ending.

Emissions must fall 60% in 9 years & the IEA says zero new oil & gas projects for a hope of even ‘net’ zero. So it would be reasonable to assume laws are being passed to end exploration right? In fact, the world is on an oil & gas binge. A shocking, terrifying, revolutionary 🧵

Contrary to Big Oil's climate change propaganda of individualized responsibility, the International Energy Agency's blockbuster 'Net Zero by 2050' report envisions less than 5% of emissions reductions coming from "behaviour changes". 1/n

If you are planning fireworks for the 4th, consider this. Look at the spike in human ignitions of fires (discovery dates of) around July 4th. Be careful out West, it’s never been this dry. (This is for the Wildland Urban Interface where humans and forest co-exist)

1.5C-1.6C is profoundly catastrophic to the point where the livability of the planet is threatened. The only way to avoid this level of global warming whilst stopping the extreme levels of deforestation & pollution tied to economic growth, is to shift now to a postgrowth economy.

Folks, here's your daily reminder The harm of climate change is caused by **cumulative** greenhouse gases. So: a very slow path to zero by 2050 does much more absolute harm than a very fast one. This isn't widely understood: the fossil industry knows and exploits this.

Since Sunday afternoon my wife and I have been thrust into a climate disaster that has been otherworldly, entirely surreal, and profoundly eye-opening. 1/
