Teaching an interprofessional simulation on discharge planning for adults with frailty with medicine/PT/pharmacy students. Overheard during debrief: “The patient is the center of our care.” 👏🏽👏🏽 I think they get it. #geriatrics

So... the first lawsuit I'd like to see is from a Jewish woman who has access to an abortion provider denied in a Christian Theocracy state sue that the Christian rules inhibit her religious freedom under the free exercise clause of the 1st Amendment.

Abortion is not only permitted in Judaism, but in some cases required when the life of the pregnant person is at stake. Restrictive abortion laws, rooted in just one understanding of when life begins, limit our ability to fully practice our religious tradition.

Saw many patients already this week with complex admits My first questions to nurse/primary team: Functional status prior to admit? Where and who did they live with? No answers. We must understand the past to make sense of the present and plan for the future #MedTwitter

The pendulum has swung too far. Penalizing falls in the hospital has resulted in patients who aren’t allowed to get out of bed. They get weaker, depressed, constipated, pressure ulcers and ultimately need SNF placement. Ambulation should be viewed as a key to healing.

Hot tip: when delivering news to a successful team of women physicians and NPs, it is poor form for the man to tell them to “calm down”

The legal reason a pregnant woman can't get divorced in Missouri is because the unborn is not a person so joint custody and support can't be adjudicated until the first breath. You heard that right. Not a person. Until born.

The "Value Them Both" tagline is uncomfortable and disingenuous propaganda. The agenda is to further silence women in their moment of crisis and prescribe a course of action without attention to nuance or the provision of social and financial support. 12/

“You are really making me think about this from a different lens that feels achievable and truly patient-centered.” says a hospital leader after a presentation about functional decline during and post-hospitalization. I think they got it. Folks, #thisisgeriatrics

We *should* expect patients to pull out IVs&try to get out of bed It's not normal to be tied to IVs It's not normal to be in bed all day Our job *is not* to stop pts from pulling lines/getting out of bed Our job is to help pts get as close to *normal life* as possible

Adding a SNF experience to the medical student curriculum on their surgical rotation led to an increased understanding of care of older adults across the continuum. #geriatrics #MedTwitter KU Medical Center

Five things you can do to avoid the hazards of hospitalization: Family/friends of patients in 🇨🇦hospitals - more than ever, you must engage in the care of your admitted older adult. Simply because of frailty, the vulnerability to bad outcomes exists.
