You better believe it's a good template. And it would never have happened without Jason & Robbie bringing in the CA Homeless Union, and the City of Novato choosing cooperation over lawsuit. 'Good template': Novato homeless camp builds sense of community marinij.com/2022/02/21/nov…

It's amazing what cities can do when pressed. Anthony Prince, lead counsel for the California Homeless Union said it best - "The camp, we think, is a symbol of what can be done when homeless people organize, push back and solidify their community,” marinij.com/2022/02/21/nov…

Tons of Bay Area offices are sitting vacant as people work from home during #COVID. This one is about to get a second life as housing for homeless residents. Will more follow? East Bay Times Mercury News bayareane.ws/3p74s2a

We've been saying these properties should be repurposed to save lives, it's great that it's happening. Hope it catches on! ⁦Jason Sarris⁩ ⁦Amie Zamudio⁩ ⁦⁦Wetheunhoused⁩ Can vacant office buildings house homeless residents? mercurynews.com/2022/02/22/vac…

Jason Sarris is hands-down one of the funniest, shrewdest organizers I've ever met. He's also been unhoused for a decade, which informs his ability to represent the poorest of us, forging necessary cooperation from local gov't. I'm honored (and happy) to support his candidacy!

Two young elementary school age girls just dropped off some treats to Camp Compassion! Cake with jelly sticks! I've never seen jelly sticks before. Very cool! So sweet and incredibly appreciated! Thank you ❤🙏

Wetheunhoused When I went to interview someone at the San Rafael internment camp last weekend, I was told by "security" that I could not enter the area. I explained it was public property, and their attempt to restrict access was unlawful. Security subsequently pretended to call the police.

Wetheunhoused Maybe security did actually call the police on a reporter last weekend?!But I'm skeptical because it sounded like they were just calling their boss at the security co. San Rafael police are already on warning that harassing/intimidating reporters and attorneys onsite is unlawful.

Giuseppe Ricapito Marin IJ I hope you will report on the potential for City of Sausalito to sue Havel and the RBRA for the consequences of Havel's improper seizure and destruction (assisted by Malcolm) of so many anchorout boats, which had severe fallout effects on Sausalito. Article in ⁦Pacific Sun⁩ praises corrupt "non-profit" shelter Homeward Bound in Marin but: 1) fails to note the shelter is charging unhoused people for congregate beds; 2) declines to identify "culinary training" as compelled (and unpaid) labor. pacificsun.com/homeward-bound…

City of Sausalito: "Let's not make a FEDERAL CASE out of two kittycats at the camp." Robbie Powelson: (chalks up another win at the FEDERAL courthouse) Meanwhile, Camp Kitties continue monitoring for rats. Kitties should get a paid contract from the city for rodent patrol.
