Happy first day of Spring! One of my favorite ways to paint is contre-jour, or against the light. I like playing with the dramatic silhouettes, glowing edges, and distant hazy atmosphere. This scene I painted at Burying Hill Beach in Westport, CT had all these elements in play.

Set up painting some Sunday morning serenity at Sasco Beach on Mothers day, until a gaggle of Brant geese showed up honking and photobombing into the piece. I included a few in the painting as I enjoyed the chaos they created!
