When you have a difficult, disrespectful, and defiant student, my biggest tip for you… is to have lots of conversations with them when they are not in trouble. These conversations are where you build rapport… and that rapport makes future confrontations less likely.

Having three children under 15, it is offensive to be told to "learn to live" with COVID when they can't get vaxed. "Learn to live" with exposing our children as the great unvaccinated generation? This cannot be allowed to happen!

I encourage all new teachers to follow teachers who currently love their position. One cannot grow from negativity. Positivity is the key to happiness in teaching.

A student today came to school today dejected because something happened before he arrived. As he was reflecting, he said, “I wish my mom noticed how upset I was.” And then he continued, “But at least my teacher did.” What you do matters.

Teachers,the first few weeks of school can be overwhelming. It's not unprofessional or weak to be tired/cry, feel like you are running on empty, or just plain teacher tired. It is unprofessional for you to ignore it. Take care of yourself because you are a professional!
