80 years ago today, the CO of the 2nd Battalion of the 28th Marines, Lt. Colonel Chandler Johnson was KIA on Iwo Jima. 🪦 Out of Chandler Johnson’s 2nd Battalion, which numbered 1,688 men at its peak, only 177 walked off the island of Iwo Jima unscathed. 🪖
