So basically the Chiefs multiplied Smith's tag by 4 and guaranteed 3 years.

Obviously a lot depends on the vesting schedule but $70M for injury on a 4 year contract is massive. Next closest on a 4 year would be Nelson at $60M.

I would expect the structure of Gardner's and Wilson's contracts with the low signing bonus and double option to be very similar

The 60m in guarantees must be new money only because that number is too light

Looking at the numbers I am pretty surprised that Smith took this contract from KC. He probably left money on the table by not playing out the tag and heading into FA next year.

Returning to college over guarantee language would be crazy, IMO. Cant imagine that is a serious consideration.

Just to put the numbers in perspective Stewart's NFL contract he is set to earn $18.97M guaranteed over the next 4 years if he signs. $11.275M would be paid out this year. A drop to round 2 would drop you to about $12M/$6M at best. You would also add a year before you can sign

Looking at the TJ Watt deal...I dont get why the Steelers just didnt get something done earlier. Would have saved them a few bucks and the headache that comes with hearing about a contract dispute all offseason.
