This is a public admission that the right to protest was curtailed to protect the image of the king. An absolute disgrace. #NotMyKing

They'll keep saying this, but the basic point remains: the powers are too broad and the police cannot be trusted to interpret them narrowly. So whether it's their intention or not, protest will be prevented. Yesterday, today, tomorrow.

I bang on a lot about Secondary Legislation, but this matters. "Secondary legislation" is law passed directly by ministers, under powers given by Parlt. It's meant to fill in the details of "primary",or parliamentary, legislation It is *not* meant to overrule decisions by Parlt

A dark day for freedom of the press, for everyone who cares about it and for every journalist & news organisation that believes in public interest reporting. A statement:

This is just wild. 2 women were arrested in the UK for holding a sign in Arabic. The cops asked them to translate the sign. They did. The cops couldn’t verify it because they didn’t have a translator, so they arrested them Arabic is now a crime in the UK

A lot of times, when people say "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," they mean that Palestinians will be free of colonial violence in their geographically-defined, historic homeland, and the way you can tell they mean that is by considering what words mean

I seem to have a lot of free time today. I just posted a mammonth collection of notes on Gibson's SPRAWL TRILOGY, which starts with Neuromancer. Quote, commetns, photos. You can read it on Medium. medium.com/@rudyrucker/no…

me & my collaborators have done the most extensive research of the LAION datasets (3 academic papers & the first to investigate dataset in 2021 showing misogyny, pornography, & malignant stereotypes) yet, the Stanford study has not cited us once. this is academic misconduct

They are doctors. What hope do we have that the Government will resolve this dispute when the Health Secretary is so dismissive, or so ignorant, of the experience of our dedicated doctors?

No. The fight for the future is between various forms of technologically driven growth - some of which empower and support humans and some of which destroy the planet and result in massive income inequality and a consolidation of power to a tiny minority.

🧵Today is the last day of filming BBC Doctors A show that has run for 24 years, employed thousands of people, produced more than 4,500 episodes, will call ‘cut’ for the final time. As a writer on the show for the past 19 years I’m personally impacted along with hundreds 1/

After the riots, Keir Starmer should tell us the truth about our country. This is what he should say, and why he won't say it. This week’s column theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Journalists are meant to speak truth to power. That's our job. But what do you do when that power is your own news org? This thread (professional suicide note?) is about The Guardian & The Observer's future. Because it turns out you can’t believe everything you read on a poster.. 1/

The degree to which Western countries are willing to humiliate their own citizens - and themselves - simply to enable Israel to continue to commit genocide, is beyond belief...
