I always thought that industry had limited electrification potential. How wrong I was: Once I looked into it in more detail I found that the potential is huge. 90% of industrial process heat could be electrified in Europe by 2035. That's what analysis for Agora Industrie says.

Could this be the biggest climate story of the year? For the first time on record, China's emissions are falling due to clean energy growth, not slow power demand Full analysis + outlook by Lauri Myllyvirta: carbonbrief.org/analysis-clean… 1/7

The primary energy fallacy is the idea that all primary energy from fossil fuels must be replaced with equivalent amount of clean energy. BUT: Not necessary because conversion losses don’t need to be replaced. 2/3 of all primary energy is lost as waste heat.

Cities have spent millions on hydrogen buses so plagued with faults that many vehicles have been left trapped in depots for months at a time. Many of trials have hit the same stumbling blocks, including high costs and a lack of reliable hydrogen supply. inews.co.uk/news/millions-…

Most industrial heat is from fossil fuels with only 4% electrified. A missed opportunity: The potential for industrial electrification exceeds 90% but most people don't know that.

A reminder: energy isn't just electricity. Many countries have done well to decarbonise the tip of the energy iceberg - electricity. The hard bit is what's below the tip of the iceberg - heat, cooling and transport.

China is on track to become the world’s first major ā€œelectrostate,ā€ with its electrification rate reaching 30%. This puts China ahead of both the EU and the US, where the proportion of electricity in total energy use has remained steady at about 22% in recent years.

This is one of the the largest heat pumps in the world (60MW). It is located in Esbjerg, DK and provides heating for 100,000 people. The heat pump replaced coal-fired thermal generation using Denmark's electricity which is 2/3 from wind and solar.

The world’s largest electric vehicle isn’t a car or bus—it’s the eDumper, a 45-tonne mining truck in Switzerland. It hauls 65 tonnes and can finish a shift with more charge than it started, thanks to regenerative braking. If we can electrify mining trucks, what’s next?

If you believe parts of the media electric vehicle sales stalled. The data tells a very different story: Global electric car sales are accelerating at an unprecedented pace. Over past 3 years sales nearly tripled—reaching 17.3m new registrations in 2024 up from 6.5m in 2021.

Tesla fanboys keep telling me that falling Tesla sales have all to do with the Model Y refresh. Experts are not so sure. theguardian.com/technology/202…
