Terrific meeting with USAID Ukraine Director Jim Hope in #Kyiv. The commitment of the USA to #Ukraine & World Food Programme is awesome. We reemphasized that WFP will only be here for as long as we are needed, to restore & enhance existing capacity, with the support of our largest donor.
The poverty & undernutrition maps presented today, produced by World Food Programme and #BangladeshBureauofStatistics & supported by @IFADSouthAsia, is paramount for #BDgov to understand the causes & impacts of #poverty and #foodinsecurity. These will ensure that effective action is taken.
According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (#FFWC), water is flowing above danger level (up to 1m) in the northeastern part of #Bangladesh. As of now, impact areas are #Sylhet and #Sunamganj. World Food Programme is actively monitoring the situation.
A wonderful start to the weekend in #CoxsBazar: cleaning up the world's longest natural beach with 130 #surfkids from the World Food Programme funded Surfers' Megher School! A great opportunity for them to learn about the impact of #littering on sea-life and how it adds to #climateshocks.
Thanks to #MoDMR and World Bank South Asia for the consistent support. The Safety Net Systems for the Poorest (SNSP) project we signed on this morning, is further testament to the #BDgov and World Food Programme’s dedication to improve the resilience of the #Rohingya population in Cox’s Bazar.
Great meeting with MFA of Ukraine 🇺🇦, discussing World Food Programme support to 3m citizens this month, hearing appreciation for the cash program scale-up & agreeing on the need to find means to mitigate the global food security impact of this war - by enabling food exports! 1/2
Very engaging conversation with Kishwar Chowdhury today, as she discussed with World Food Programme #Bangladesh how passion, stewardship & culture are key elements of great food and how food #security is incumbent on men & women taking on the responsibility of putting food on the table, together.
Communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis need urgent support! World Food Programme, Food and Agriculture Organization, World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, & International Fund for Agricultural Development work to help at risk people in #Bangladesh to prepare for, respond to, and recover from climate shocks & stresses.
