They've got what they set out for, a set of #SQAresults which look fine viewed nationally. Underneath that? Thousands of young people who, exactly as we feared, have had their grades lowered for what looks like no more reason than the school they go to. #SQAresultsday

More bad news for the SQA and ScotGov - Professor Guy Nason (Chair of Statistics at Imperial College London) has had a look at the exam results methodology and his comments are highly critical wwwf.imperial.ac.uk/~gnason/Pers_S…

Some pupils’ qualifications have been downgraded on the principle that “they live in a deprived area and attend a disadvantaged school”. This is both unjust and an egregious example of the Ecological fallacy: individual accomplishment cannot be derived from community attributes.

Which school you go to shouldn't dictate whether you get to study law. With the moderation of Scottish exam results disproportionately affecting pupils from lower-performing schools, we look at the impact and how employers can help make a difference 👇 bit.ly/2PHPayR

As a teacher 1) We are doing best can and weren’t consulted 2) Media/parents groups were bragging their victory schools back full time 3) Every school to do risk assessment so things like “no windows open in class” should not be an issue. 4)We are confused and worried too 🤷‍♂️

We welcome this necessary investment. We now invite COSLA Social Work Scotland to work with our local members to determine how this investment can have maximum impact. Transparency on where this is spent and it’s impact is needed.

Great to see today’s announcement by John Swinney of £11.6m to help local authorities raise the attainment of care experienced young people and care leavers. Essential to our collaborative efforts to meet #thepromise
