Lovely to see the infrastructure behind archival + library collections. Most people don't realize the intense human labor, large funding, and continuous institutional commitment it takes to preserve and make them accessible.

I was again told by a ‘rationalist’ recently that in stating that the costs of permanently preserving information are not ‘tiny’, I was being subjective.

Still find it strange how muted the media interest in the British Library hack has been. The impacts have been huge and will be ongoing for a long time yet.

Although I’m sure he’s *very* well known in specialist circles, I’d never heard of EF Codd until I started doing a course on relational databases (which he essentially invented). Given how the world runs on SQL, you’d think he might be better known. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_F._…

Think I’m going to spend some time in the next week or so trying to better organise my sources of politics, links to articles, jokes, online pals, archives profession stuff etc so that I can minimise my time here. Will be aiming to use my bsky account more (I’m jameselder there)

Twitter recently seems to have seen the return of ‘trolling’ in the early internet sense. i.e. posting deliberately inaccurate, provocative things, and insisting that the writer sincerely believes them. I wonder if this account is an example of that?

Having recently been awed by Denise Gough in People, Places and Things, I am even more excited to see where Dedra Meero is heading in Andor S2.

I spoke on ⁦BBC Radio 4 Today⁩ this morning on public libraries as infrastructure for democracy & making the case that government takes its superintendence responsibilities seriously under the 1964 Act. From 2:23 onwards bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…
