We've been tracking Woldja the Tasmanian wedge-tailed eagle since she took her first flight out of her nest as a young eagle. This video shows her flying around the Tasmanian Midlands for four years before settling into her own territory #wedgetailedeagle 🦅

Georgie the adult female Tasmanian wedge-tailed eagle reached a new highest altitude! This video shows her flight where she reached over 2 km high 🦅 #wedgetailedeagle #endangered

New paper- authors.elsevier.com/a/1fqaG1R%7EeO… We present an approach for predicting where animals perform different behaviours. Using data from Tasmanian #wedgetailedeagles we map where perching, short and long flights are likely to occur, which can help manage this endangered population.

Researchers used GPS tracking to analyze the behavior of Tasmanian wedge-tailed eagles. Info on where behaviors occur on the landscape can guide planning for new roads, power lines, and wind turbines to minimize risk. Read more: ow.ly/LuYI50Lcsgo 📷 by Francesco Veronesi

new paper: "Great Gray Owls hunting voles under snow hover to defeat an acoustic mirage" was just published! royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs… In it, we ask: how does great gray owl hunt thru snow? Part of the answer is this enormous facial disc they have (largest of any owl species)

And thats a wrap for PhD fieldwork! Four seasons of surveys, nest monitoring, and tagging birds has come to an end with our last juvenile tagged this morning for our survival study. On to analysing data and writing up findings! Hopefully they can help support this species

Stoked to have a cover photo for Ecography! In our paper doi.org/10.1111/ecog.0… we included temporal dynamics into SSFs, resulting in daily patterns of movement and habitat selection. Simulating then gave us dynamic spatial predictions Code! github.com/swforrest/dyna…
